KTU Academic Choir "Jaunystė"

KTU Academic Choir “Jaunystė” is one of the oldest student choirs in Kaunas.
In 1925 the rector of the University of Lithuania in Kaunas signed a certificate authorizing the musician Nikodem Martinon (1887 – 1957) to organize a student choir. The first concert of the choir was held in 1926 (December 16th). This date is considered to be the beginning of “Jaunystė”
Now the choir brings together diverse specialties and even university students – from various technologists, physicians to humanitarians. In the repertoire – ecclesiastical and secular Lithuanian and foreign authors’ works, arrangements of Lithuanian folk songs. “Jaunystė” does not miss important festivals such as “Gaudeamus”, participates in various Kaunas and national song festivals. Students with more than 40 active members of the choir are creative, constantly participate in various festivals and projects, mature and foster old choral traditions. “Jaunystė” is not only a choir, it is a collective, educating and shaping personalities.

International Competition of Academic Choirs "JUVENTUS"

The International Competition of Academic Choirs JUVENTUS is a celebration of an academic youth. More than 40 years ago this competition paved the way for international academic communication. These musical events brought together song lovers from different countries, made it possible to get acquainted with the culture of neighboring countries, and stimulated interest in choral music. Cultural cooperation between universities has also spread to wider scientific and research waters.

The first Juventus contest was organized by the leader of the choir “Jaunystė”, R. Varnas, in 1968. The first competition was attended by guests from Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Georgia, Germany and the Czech Republic.
